AI Guidance
AI Guidance is a type of AI response rule in Coheso that allows Power Users to define specific instructions for the AI when it answers questions involving particular documents. In essence, an AI Guidance rule ensures that whenever the AI cites certain document(s) in an answer, it follows a predetermined guideline or format in its response.

Accessing the Response Rules: AI Guidance
In the chat interface, click on the Docs section from the left-side navigation panel. This will open the Docs page, where you manage your organization’s documents and related settings. The Docs section is the starting point for accessing AI Response Rules.

On the Docs page, click the AI Response Rules button to view and manage your AI response rules. This will navigate you to the Response Rules interface. Here you can see all existing AI Guidance rules. If no AI Guidance rules have been created yet, the list will be empty.

Creating a New AI Guidance Rule
The response rules page allows you to create, organize, and manage guidance rules. To add a new AI Guidance rule, you will use the Create New Rule button at the top of the page.

Click on Create New Rule to open the form for adding a new AI Guidance rule. A dialog will appear where you can specify the details of the rule.
When the Create New Rule dialog opens, it will prompt you for several pieces of information:
Rule Name: Enter a clear and descriptive name for the rule. This name is for your reference and does not affect the AI’s behavior.
Guidance Type: Select the type of guidance from the dropdown. In this case, choose Guidance for AI. This setting defines that the rule is meant to guide the AI’s response (as opposed to other rule types like add-on notes).
Guidance Message: Type the instruction or guidance message that the AI should follow when responding. This is essentially the directive you want the AI to apply whenever it cites the selected document(s).
Document Triggers: Select one or more documents that will trigger this guidance rule. Click the Select files field (or dropdown) and choose the relevant document(s) from your knowledge base. The rule will apply whenever the AI’s answer involves any of these selected documents. You can select multiple documents if the same guidance message should apply to all of them.
Save the Rule: After filling in all the fields, click the Create Rule button to save your new guidance rule. Once saved, the rule becomes active and will appear in the list of AI Response Rules.

Example of Configuring an AI Guidance rule: we’ve created a guidance rule for the Slipstream NYC Lease document. The rule has a guidance message instructing the AI to format its answer with a Short Answer and a Explanation section. Whenever the AI’s answer will involve the NYC Lease document, it will apply this guidance and structure the response accordingly.

Managing AI Guidance Rules
Existing AI Guidance rules can be edited or removed using the action icons in the rules list. To modify a rule, click the pencil Edit icon next to that rule. This will reopen the rule form, allowing you to change the rule name, guidance message, or document triggers (for instance, you could update the instruction text or add/remove triggered documents). After making changes, click Save to apply the updates. To delete a rule, click the trash bin Delete icon and confirm the deletion in the pop-up dialog. The rule will then be permanently removed from your Response Rules list.

AI Responses with AI Guidance in Chat
After creating a guidance rule, you can test it by asking a question that involves the document you targeted with the rule. This will demonstrate how the AI applies the guidance when formulating its answer.

Note: AI Guidance rules apply to both Power Users and Business Users in Coheso. This means that regardless of who is asking the question (an internal power user or an end business user), the AI will follow the guidance rule whenever the specified document trigger is activated.
